Disney Trip w/Kevin – Part 1!!

Wednesday after work, Kev and I started loading the car waiting on Chase to get home. It was raining which didn’t make it an easy job!

Kevin thought we were just going to the convention. He had noooo clue.

Nana & Kristie got him a Stefon shirt for the trip!

That night we stopped in Columbus, GA for a quick overnight stop – we got in around 11:30, back up and on the road by 5:30 AM Thursday morning.

We got into Orlando around 12:30-1. As we approached the Walt Disney World sign I said, “Kevin, look at the sign up ahead!”

He leaned up and said, “Oh Disney World!” — like it was no big deal, because I’d been pointing out everything at that point (“Look there’s Seaworld. Look there’s Universal. Look there’s a Disney billboard.”)
I said, “That’s where we are going right now.”
He said, “Uh huh.”
I said, “No really.”
He was quiet for a second and then said, “Oh so we’re not going to the convention?”
“Nope. Not until Saturday. We are heading for the Magic Kingdom right now.”
And then he just giggled which means he’s happy and excited.

I had the magic band box wrapped up so he opened it up and put on his magic band.

We had a TIGHT schedule that day.

We immediately headed into guest services to get Kevin signed up for the DAS card which was painless, and was a really great experience for him over the weekend. Then we boogied down to Casey’s Corner for a quick lunch before running back up for our fastpass viewing of the parade.

We found one little open space along the curb, enough for one person to sit, so I sat Kevin there. The ground was HOT and he couldn’t stand to sit on it for more than a minute, even with a towel and his backpack on top (it was a thin little drawstring backpack so it wasn’t a lot of padding). So we switched places and I sat for the parade and he watched from behind me.

Then we got some ice cream and headed into Tomorrowland for a quick Peoplemover ride before heading over and doing our Fastpass for the Mine Train.

Mine Train was fun of course. Then we rode Winnie the Pooh before heading over and catching the boat to Wilderness Lodge for dinner.

We checked out the gift store where Kevin picked out his hat. I told him he needed some mouse ears, but this is what he picked.

We had dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe, which was a lot of fun. Kevin opened his birthday cards from the girls, and got brought a giant cup of Sprite when his third refill rolled around. Kev and I had the meatloaf — Chase had the sampling of EVERYTHING and it was seriously a lot of food.

Also did a great face swap:

After dinner, we caught the boat back to the Magic Kingdom for our Pirates fastpass. Unfortunately Pirates went down while we were in line and the wait got to be a little too long so we had to leave.

The dumb monorail was down all day so we had to ferry it both ways to the TTC. We did get a nice view of the Water Pagaent on the way out, though.

Let me tell you, packing for a con AND Disneyworld and having to leave all that stuff in the car is nerve-wracking. I ended up storing my wig, Leia buns and my whole makeup bag in our cooler with ice packs. Everything survived thankfully 🙂

We stayed at Pop Century again and this time in the 80s building. I loved the giant walkman across from us.

Thursday night ended up being… interesting. Around 1:30 in the morning, I could hear Kevin thrashing around on his bed and huffing and puffing. I finally asked what he was doing. He said he didn’t feel good. I told him to go throw up. He went in there and nothing happened. I told him he was probably overheated – the thermostat in the room wasn’t working great, and it was very muggy in there, and Kevin had gotten underneath both sheets and the thick blanket. He laid back down with just the sheet and then right back to huffing and puffing. Chase asked him again if he was sure he didn’t need to throw up… Kevin sat up and said “Uh oh” and ran to the bathroom and finally puked. Once he was done he still felt hot, and I was worried he might puke again, so I took the bedding off his bed and made him a pallet on the floor outside the bathroom. It was much cooler on the floor and he was finally able to relax and sleep. He was totally fine in the morning, thankfully.

Friday morning we had to get up early and bust it over to Magic Kingdom for an early breakfast at Crystal Palace! The ferry took forever and I had to abandon Kevin and Chase to the bag check line while I power-walked to Crystal Palace to check us in – I got there with 2 minutes to spare. Kevin and Chase got there right before they called our name – Kevin had gotten pulled for the random metal detector search and before Chase even realized it he was already walking through the metal detector LOL

Anyway… we had a really fun waiter who sang to us and entertained us and the food was good! My fav was the chocolate croissants…

I only got my picture with Piglet, because he was the only one I was missing.

We almost missed Eeyore but he came around right before we left:

And Kevin got a birthday card signed by them all!

After breakfast, Chase went to the restroom while Kevin and I waited on him — when Mary Poppins walked right past to start her meet and greet in the garden. We followed her and was 2nd in line to meet her 🙂

After that we headed over to Princess Fairytale Hall – we got a FP for Anna and Elsa, but Cinderella and Rapunzel’s wait was short enough we went and met them first, then came back around for Anna and Elsa.

Then, since it had been such a strange night, we decided to head back to the hotel for a nap before it was time to go to Hollywood Studios. Heading back to the TTC at 11AM on a busy day with the monorails still not running… equals your own personal ferryboat, haha.

We also had a giant Roger Rabbit right outside our room.

For DHS that afternoon I finally got to wear my Disneybounding Leia outfit!

Snapchat fun:

We checked out the new food booths around Echo Lake. I got empanadas, which were really good – Kev and Chase got the sliders. Then we went and met Olaf! After that was our FP for Star Tours, then Kev and I headed over to Tower of Terror.

A strange moment in the lobby….

Then to Launch Bay to meet Chewie and Kylo Ren.

We did the Great Movie Ride, then headed to Toy Story Midway Mania for our last FP of the evening. Turns out 2 of the 3 tracks were down, so it was a longer wait than usual. Kev did ok with it though.

Dinner was at 50s Primetime Cafe, it was a lot of fun! I got in trouble for swatting Kevin LOL We all got the sampling and it was all good, though the fried chicken was easily the best.

After dinner we rode Star Tours again, then staked out a spot for the fireworks.

Then we followed the crowd around for Fantasmic. I’d been able to book a 4th FP for it during dinner, so that was nice.

Then we headed back to the hotel since Saturday was another early morning.

To be continued next post!
