Hild – Ah! My Goddess

Made for: Project A-Kon 2004

Background: I pretty much love any and all Ah! My Goddess costume designs so I had to tackle this one.

Journal Entries: Read more at my Hild tag

Patterns Used: Butterick 4301 (altered)

Dress: Started out with dark blue satin, and used the same pattern I used for Urd in 2002 – altered for, obviously, the plunging neckline, and also adding sleeves, and the shaped train in the back.
For all the pink areas, I sewed them on top of the basic dress. I used the same kind of fabric, just yellow, for all the yellow parts. All of the trim had to be made so that it all matched. All of the streamers I made a pattern for, then made each one out of the pink fabric, and interfacing, and attached them to the dress with brass hoops.

Wig: The wig was made of three different white wigs – my Urd wig and my Amalthea wig, plus a third one which I bought and cut up. The two main wigs were sewn together – one made the front section, and other made the ponytail in the back. The third one I used to make the fan behind the “hat”. The hat I made of foam and covered in fabric, and sewed into the wig. The fan of hair I attached to the back of the hat, and styled it with glue. All of the hair ornaments were made of balls covered in friendly plastic and painted. They’re all removeable. The two next to the hat I left off for Akon, because I didn’t like how they looked, but I replaced them for later cons.

Accessories: The shoes I bought online and sewed the gold rings onto, and the arm and ankle bands I made of foam and covered in fabric.

History: Very hard to wear costume – but I loved the overall look.

In 2023 I finally got her out and did a white backdrop shoot. Haven’t worn it since 2005 so it definitely needed some small alternations – I repaired and restyled the wig, fixed the hoops on the shoes, and had to let out the hips to get into again! But so glad to have some white backdrop shots of it.
