Poison Ivy – Batman

Made for: Adventurecon 2008

Background: After my wedding I realised I had a ton of silk ivy leaves leftover – why not make use of them? LOL.

Bodice:
I started out by buying a pretty basic bodice online, and then altering it to fit better (taking out the stretchy panels, taking it up in the sides, permanently sewing shut the front opening), then I put it on my dressform and just started attaching leaves. It didn’t take terribly long and was pretty simple. Most of them are glued on, with a few hand-sewn in place in areas where they may come loose.

Briefs:
I did basically the same thing with the briefs/shorts – I bought a pair of swimsuit bottoms and covered them in the leaves. I had to sew a lot more of these on that glue, due to the stretch of the bottoms.

Boots:
The most work on this costume went into the boots – I found a pair of boots I liked at goodwill, added an extension I’d made of vinyl to create the upper shape, then made boot covers out of my green suede and glued it down onto the boots so it’s permanent. Then added the leaves along the upper edge.

Accessories:
The gloves I made of green suede material, and attached leaves along the top. I bought the tights online, and made the crown of leaves as a last-minute replacement to what I was originally going to do.

History: I’m pretty happy with all of it, it was a simple costume and it was great fun to wear.
