Dress:
I started out by making a mock-up of a bodice including the side cut-outs to see how they would work if I left them open. Once I got that worked out, I remade it in two layers of blue cotton and one of interfacing. I used spiral steel boning, along with some thinner plastic boning along the edges of the opening in a couple of places. I covered the whole thing in blue spandex, then made a simple circle skirt, using an ice skating pattern, of the same spandex and stitched it onto the bottom of the bodice. The sleeves I made separately and tacked onto the sides of the bodice.

All of the yellow designs I drew patterns for, cut out of yellow vinyl, and hand-sewed in place. It wasn’t perfect and wants to curl in a few places, but overall I’m happy with it.

Boots:
For the boots, I decided I didn’t like the straight-across cut of the original boots, so I decided to raise the back and make them into a sort-of “U” shape instead. I found the boots at Goodwill, built up the top/back, then covered them in red spandex. The yellow designs on the shoes I did with spandex instead of vinyl like the dress, worked better.

Wig:
The wig was an adventure. I’m currently on my 3rd wig for it – the first was horrible and I never wore it, the second from Dragoncon 2010 I just didn’t like, and the 3rd I bought for GMX. It’s a little paler than I’d like but I love the shape.

Shoulder Piece/Cape:
My husband made the shoulder wrap piece (foam), and the “S” symbol. We couldn’t find an S symbol small enough, so he carved it out of foam. It snaps onto the bodice, and the shoulder pieces velcro to it. The cape is stitched onto the front of the bodice, and velcros to the inside of the shoulder wrap along the back.

History: I really liked how this turned out! I wore it to GMX and another Dragoncon, and I’d love to wear it again sometime soon.
