“Beastly” Belle – Horror/Undead Disney Princesses

Made for: Dragoncon 2008

Background: I couldn’t pass up the chance to do this costume with the Undead Princess group at Dcon! I was “Beauty AND the Beast.”

Dress:
I decided to reuse my regular Belle skirt instead of trying to make something new – just didn’t have the time. The bodice was fun to make. For time’s sake I took a corset I already had and wasn’t using for anything and built the ripped up bodice around it, using yellow satin. I just loosely stitched it on, so it’s completely removable. I built a panel into one side that looked like a place the bodice was ripped, showing “skin” (a piece of suede) underneath, along with some hair and a bloody cut. I tore up the edges and dirtied up the fabric using paint and pastel dust. The shoulder wrap was just some leftover chiffon dyed yellow and stitched on. I attached some more loose hair along the back and along the top edge of the bodice.

Gloves/Fingers:
The gloves were my snowbunny Padme gloves, dyed yellow with the finger tips ripped out, and dirtied up. I bought “monster” fingers at our local costume store, repainted them and just inserted them into the gloves.

Facial Prosthetics:
I bought a pair of werewolf ears, painted them and added hair – but once I got all this on I wasn’t able to get them on my ears with the wig on, so I had to leave them off. The facial pieces were part of a werewolf kit I bought online. It came and was WAY too big and I had to cut it down a lot just so it would fit my face. I don’t really care for the way it looked, but oh well. I used the excess to make some “eyebrows” – just loose hair glued on. I’m no expert at putting that kind of stuff on, but between my husband and myself we managed to get it on. I added the eyebrows, and some loose hair along my chin line, and that was that. Lovely, LOL.

Accessories:
The wig and shoes are my regular Belle shoes. I also applied some “dirt” (eyeshadow) on my arms.

History: I only wore this with the group for a bit, then had to take it all off as I was have a slight allergy to the latex and it was getting uncomfortable! As of 2020 there’s not much left of this costume – I still have the gloves and monster fingers, but that’s about it… so I doubt there will ever be a white backdrop shoot with this.
