Briar Rose – Sleeping Beauty

Made for: Halloween 2010

Background: I’d gotten a new wig for my Sleeping Beauty costume, and decided to get double use out of it by also making Briar Rose 🙂

Journal Entries: Read more at my Briar Rose tag

Patterns Used:
Simplicity 5006
for the bodice (altered)

Wig:
The wig is a cosworx Rose wig I bought the year before and hadn’t messed with since – I added some extra wefts for thickness, curled it (though the curls didn’t stay very well), and styled the bangs.

Blouse:
I was really happy with the fabric I found for the shirt, a thin grey material – I didn’t use a pattern. I do need to take it up a little through the torso before I wear it again, it was a little too large. I used white cotton for the collar section.

Bodice:
The bodice I made using a pattern. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s black cotton, spiral steeling boning, black suede, with a leather busk. It laces up the back.

Skirt:
I looked forever for fabric I liked for the skirt – I had to settle for grey suede, which I hadn’t wanted to use again after using suede for the bodice, but it was all I could find that I liked. I made the skirt without a pattern, I think it was something six panels, and attached to a waistband. I cut up one of my petticoats to fit underneath it.

Accessories:
The shawl
is the same kind of silk gauze I used for my Alyss collar fabric, I really loved it for Alyss so I wanted to use it again. I’d like to dye it again and get it a little darker. Found the basket at goodwill, and the headband at Hobby Lobby. The shoes are my Belle shoes.

History: I haven’t worn this since Halloween 2010! Need to find a reason to wear it again 🙂
