Dr Forrester – Mystery Science Theater 3000

Made for: Halloween 2012/GMX 2013

Background: We decided for work this year for Halloween, our theme would be mad scientists. I had promised myself I would not make a new Halloween costume – but with the theme of mad scientists I just had to make a quick version of my personal favourite mad scientist, Dr. Forrester.

Patterns Used:
McCalls M5992 (it has doggie pajamas)

Jacket:
The jacket was made using the above houserobe/pajama pattern, though I deviated from it. In 2013 I went back and I made a facing for the front, added pleated side panels, made it more fitted and added some darts, and a hook-and-eye front closure. I heat-transferred the insignia onto the front.

Accessories:
The rest was just clothes I already had, and I did the white streaks in my hair with white makeup. Originally I wore my own eyeglasses with it, and for Dragoncon 2014 I upgraded to some green glasses.

Tom Servo:
In 2013 my parents and husband got me a Tom Servo puppet for my birthday, so I immediately wanted to come up with a costume to go with it so I could carry him around at GMX. Tom was a kit, and my husband put him together. He’s fun to carry around at cons!

History: About time I added a MST3K-related costume to my line-up. One day I’ll do Mila from Cave Dwellers, too.
