Cammy – Street Fighter
Made for MTAC 2001
Other Appearances: N/A

For MTAC 2001, my second “serious” convention, I decided to make 3 costumes – Ruby Moon, Utena, and Juri (also from Utena). When the wig I’d picked out for Juri turned out to be backordered, I switched gears and decided to do Cammy instead, because I thought I could easily just buy a leotard and make a few accessories.

I couldn’t find a blue leotard I liked and had no idea how to make one, so mom and I went to a local dance store. The dance store offered to make it for us. We picked a blue out of the fabric they had on hand, which was a little more turquoise than I wanted, but it was close enough. They even gave me a scrap of material I could use to make my hat, so that was handy.

The gauntlets I made out of cardboard tape roll tubes, covered in red vinyl. They were 100% hot-glued together, and as I learned the hard way, hot-glue doesn’t stick vinyl together very well. After the con they totally fell apart.

The little tie at the neck, for some reason I interpreted this as being 3d – so I made it out of friendly plastic, covered in yellow vinyl. That thing was a heavy CHUNK of plastic. It velcroed onto the suit but didn’t want to stay put, because it was so heavy. I eventually melted it down to use for other projects.

The wig I bought on ebay and added the antenna using floral wire and elmer’s glue. And the leg stripes were just pieces of light green cotton – I tried to spirit gum them to my legs, but that stained and hardened the cotton, so I just put them under my tights instead.

I sold what was left of it a few months after MTAC. Except the wig. I kept the wig for some reason. It’s still in my bin of homeless costume pieces.
