Art Deco Gold Gown – Unused Concept

This one was a really pretty piece of concept art… and I’m happy with how parts of this turned out but parts of it just didn’t really work. The concept art is presented with loose, sleek hair, but Padme’s natural hair has never been presented that way, so I did her curly hair, and I think if I were going to redo it, I would have put her hair up. It just doesn’t jive with the dress the way it is now. Also wasn’t really super jazzed with my shoes choice.
But! I do love the way the dress turned out. I liked the Klimt-esque look of the concept art and wanted to keep that in my version, so I maybe strayed a bit too far away from “how would I realistically make this” into “eh just make it look cool” territory, especially with some of the squares of the skirt veering off into space. But I think if I were to do it, I’d start with a white dress and applique layers of white and grey rectangles on top to try to get the same effect. The gold top of the dress would be done the same way; layers of gold fabric appliqued on for a “tiled” look.

Overall I still really like it, I just wish I’d made some different choices.
