let’s circle back after the holidays

Halloween now feels like a month ago. But it was just a week ago! Since it was cold out I wore Leia so I could layer under it, and it's comfortable to sit in while waiting on trick or treaters. I ended up being home alone most of the night. Chase had to go over and help my aunt and uncle with something so I figured I was in for ...

it’s the weekly monday post

Friday was busy!! So Wednesday last week I pulled out Belle to double check everything - it needed some roses replaced and some of the appliques sewn back on. And I needed to restyle the wig since I took it down for Dorothy. Then Friday I came straight home from work and started getting ready. I experimented a little bit - I actually wore both my panniers and my round ...

Finished!

Chase took some photos of my finished Belle dresses last night. We just set them up in the hallway (under the Belle portrait!) on the dressform. The blue dress: After I sent it in for a final try-on, I found out I was going to have to lose about 4 inches of length when I hemmed it. I tried to keep as much length tucked into the hem as possible (in ...

Almost there…

I finished the ballgown over the weekend! Now where did I leave off.. First up, the real hoopskirt came in so I was able to switch out my stand-in for the real one.... it came just in time, they are shaped differently so that helped me gauge the gathering in the seams, and pinning the hem, Getting the two skirts put together and then pleated was a nightmare. It took ...

Ballgown skirt

I was supposed to work on the shoulder pieces last night but I didn't. Instead I came home and sewed all the skirt panels together, gathered it (just as a test, I'll probably have to re-gather it later), and then got all of the skirt poof panels cut and sewn together (well, mostly, I still have two more in the back to add) I was just really excited to see ...

Belle ballgown bodice progress!

Some more updates on the school play Belle costumes... I strugged with the bodice for the ballgown the past two nights - trying to get all 5 layers even and sized the same way was a nightmare. I also made the mistake of buying plastic boning for it - because obviously our stores here don't sell the spiral steel I usually use. I got it cut and in place... and just ...

Belle Costumes

Yay new projects to talk about! I'm currently working on two Belle costumes for a production of Beauty and the Beast! My mom is doing the 3 dresses for Gaston's silly girls, and I'm doing the Belle village dress and ballgown. Week before last, we went shopping... starting with a disappointing trip to Hancock Fabrics. 4 in the afternoon, lines four people deep at the cutting table and the register, bolts laying ...

a little mystery

I'm posting a lot today. I was digging through old hard-drives trying to find some missing pictures last night when I came across some pics of a project that did not get finished. I'm sharing it today with Chase's permission. Back in 2012 when I was making my newer Belle ballgown, you can find mentions and photos of the new Beast costume Chase was making to match. I think the last ...

MidSouthCon 2015

This weekend was MidSouthCon of course! (Warning: there is puke in the upcoming story.) It ended up being kind of a strange weekend. Our plans were to take Kevin and let him enjoy the convention while I was doing my panels and whatnot. We picked him up Thursday and he spent the night, then Friday I ran home at lunch to bring him back up to work with me (had ...

Dressform Pics

Here's everything so far. I'm only missing 3 actually so maybe I should have waited, but our server is down at work and I'm bored. Belldandy and Urd from 2003 and 2002, respectively. These two costumes have really stood the test of time. I knew Belldandy was in good shape since I wore her to Momocon earlier this year, but Urd has been packed in a bag for several years. The cape's a ...
