Utena – Revolutionary Girl Utena (White Artbook Uniform)

Made for: Katsucon 2003

Background: I had a handful of items I wanted to reuse, besides my Utena wig, and this costume was the perfect excuse 🙂

Journal Entries: Read more at my Utena White tag

Patterns Used: McCalls 2962

Jacket: For the jacket I used the same pattern I had used for Misato’s jacket, just lengthened, and editing the collar. It zips closed (the collar velcros). For the seams on the chest I made separate pieces and sewed them on, then sewed on the many buttons all over the jacket. I wish I’d used a slightly different colour button – the white buttons on the white jacket don’t show up very well.

Skirt: The skirt I had already from another costume (one of the items I wanted to reuse!) – I matched the fabric for the jacket to it, and luckily found something very close.

Boots: The platform boots were leftover from Ocha, and for the boot covers, in the artwork it’s long strips of red material wrapped around her leg, not just one piece – so I made a base, and then cut long red pieces of fabric and sewed them around the base, so it looks wrapped around.

Accessories: All the medals I made of various pieces of leftover fabric, and attached pin backs. The shoulder armour was wooden discs painted gold, with gold tassels attached. They velcro onto the jacket. I already had the ring, and the wig.

History: I only wore this for one con and a couple of photoshoots – I sold it a few years ago!
