Utena – Revolutionary Girl Utena

Made for: MTAC 2007

Background: I had wanted to remake my Utena costume for a while, MTAC seemed the con to do it for, since that’s where I wore my first version originally.

Journal Entries: Read more at my Utena tag

Patterns Used:
I think Vogue 8301, altered

Wig:
The wig I bought online, and I cut and curled it. I ended up also using my original wig as wefts for extra thickness.

Jacket:
The jacket I made using a Vogue pattern. I lengthened it and made a few other little alternations, but otherwise pretty straight-forward. I used blue velveteen, similar to what I used for my first version. The cuffs I made separately, and sewed onto the jacket, along with the pockets, and trimmed it in red. It’s VERY fitted and I ended up having to sew myself into it at the con.

Shoes:
The shoes I made by finding a pair with the shape I wanted – then I covered them in the same material as the jacket, and added the white “spats” and red bows.

Accessories:
The socks were just red spandex. The “skirt” part was made of some lightweight white fabric and organza. Not crazy about it and would like to remake it. The medal on the front I made of various wooden pieces, and the gold braid was glued onto it. The shoulder pieces were sculpted & cast a little last minute – I have always planned to remake them, along with several other things on this costume, but haven’t had the opportunity. Maybe one day. My duelist ring, shorts, rose and rose holder were all from my first version.

History: I sold this costume several years ago… I want to make another one! (edit – Feb 2022 – I did not sell this costume LOL. I still have it! I guess i tried. And I have made a new one, in 2022!)
