Nanami – Rebolutionary Girl Utena

Made for: A-Kon 2003

Background: One of my favourite Utena characters…

Journal Entries: Read more at my Nanami tag

Patterns Used: Probably McCalls 2962

Shorts/Top: I started out by finding a pair of bright yellow stretch pants on ebay – they were truly ugly! I bought them, cut them off and hemmed them to make the shorts. I took them to the fabric store with me to match them to some yellow fabric for the top. I used a pattern to make the top (this one, I think), altering for the shape of the bottom, and the collar. It zips up he front. The trim is black ribbon, and the lower sleeves are black fabric, with white ribbon trim and fake yellow buttons.

Shoulder Pieces: The shoulder pieces I made the same as all my other Utena ones – wooden discs from the Hobby Store painted black, with tassels glued on around the edge. It velcros to the shoulders of the top. I had to dye the tassels for this one, as I couldn’t find the right colour. The braid I bought – it velcros inside the jacket.

Shoes: The shoes I bought and altered – I love how they turned out. I covered them in the yellow and white fabric, with black ribbons. They velcro closed, and are easily my favourite part!

Accessories: I already had the wig- I didn’t want to spend extra money to get another wig at the time, so I made this one do. I bought loose hair and braided it and pinned it to the top. The black tights I bought.

History: I did one last photoshoot with this in 2013 before selling it to a new home 🙂
