Yuffie – Final Fantasy VII

Made for: A-Kon 2003

Background: One of my all time fav games, so of course I had to do some kind of costume from it. (Header image by Eurobeat King!)

Journal Entries: Read more at my Yuffie tag

Wig/Headband: I bought the wig online. The headband I made of vinyl, covered in silver fabric. The “metal” piece on the front I made of painted cardstock, with two painted wooden knobs glued on. The “head arrows” I made of wire, covered in batting, covered in green fabric. They’re wired into the back of the headband.

Clothes: The sweater I bought off ebay and altered – dyed it green, cut the sleeves off and hemmed it. The shorts I had, the shoes, socks and fishnets I bought online.

Armor: The chestpiece/shoulder armour/arm guard is all one piece. I drew up a pattern for the chestpiece and made it out of blue vinyl, with some light blue trim. It buckles in the front. The armguard is attached to it – I made it out of a pillow form cut in half, and covered in khaki material. The shoulder armour is fiberglass – used a rubber ball as a base, and used plastic tubing and wooden knobs to make the ridges and detail on it. Then I painted it several times – once a coat of base silver, and then a gunmetal grey sponged on to give it an aged look. The other arm armour and leg armour I made of various bits & pieces, painted and decorated. The gloves I made of vinyl scraps. The leg straps I made of the same blue vinyl as the chestpiece – it’s rigged to a belt I wear under my shorts that holds all the straps up. They connect to the leg armour with some overall closures.

Shuriken: The shuriken my dad helped me make – it’s made of gatorboard and the two pieces velcro in the center, so I can take it apart and put it back together for shipping. I used marbles as materia.

History: This was a fav costume of mine for a long time and I still like it a lot. Must get new photos one day.
