Ms Marvel – Avengers

Made for: Anaheim Comic Con 2010

Background: This was a quick, simple project while working on Jane.

Patterns Used:
KwikSew 2004

Leotard:
I used a basic leotard pattern and matte black spandex. I made a mockup and got that fitted, then used that as my lining. I hand-stitched the lightning bolt (gold metallic spandex) in place, then machine sewed… then realised I’d done it on the back piece instead of the front! I had enough to cut a new back piece and recut the back piece as a front, thank goodness I had enough fabric to fix it!

Mask:
Sculpted by my husband and cast in latex.

Accessories:
I made the sash out of red spandex. The gloves I bought, the boots I found super cheap. I made extensions for the round section at the top and covered them in my black spandex, but my extension kept the top from stretching enough to go all the way up. D’oh. After Anaheim, I made a new pair of boots out black spandex and a pair of cheap heels. Worked much better. (And my original boots eventually became my Valkyrie boots!)

History: It’s a super simple costume but one of my favourite to wear. I’ve worn it a ton and have no plans on retiring it anytime soon.
