Donna Noble – Doctor Who: The Fires of Pompeii

Made for: Dragoncon 2014

Background: I had planned a different costume for Dragoncon that year – but when I realized I wouldn’t have time to finish it, I put it on hold and put this one together instead.

Patterns Used:
Butterick 4018

Dress:
The Butterick pattern I had was very close, just needed a few little changes. I bought the fabric at Joann’s, it’s not quite the right colour but it’s soft, thin and very comfortable.

This was a REALLY simple and fast project, so there’s not much in the way of progress photos. Took about 3 hours to make – would have been quicker if I hadn’t had to unpick the skirt seams a couple of times. The only changes I made to the pattern was to lengthen the skirt, add some side panels, shorten the sleeves, and I lined the top. The trim I also bought and Joann’s and stitched in place, though I had to go back and reinforce the bustline trim so it stayed straight.

Accessories:
The sandals I had. I decided to go with my Journey’s End Donna jewelry for now.

Final Thoughts: I need to revisit this before I wear it again – I made it much too long to be comfortable (I guess I lengthened it TOO much…) and I’d like to replace the trim with something not so bulky. Otherwise it was a fantastic, easy costume.
