Sailor Jupiter – Sailor Moon Musicals (“SeraMyu”)

Made for: Anime Expo 2003

Background: The SeraMyu style costumes are so over the top. I thought it’d be fun to make.

Journal Entries: Read more at my SeraMyu Jupiter tag

Patterns Used: See my Sailor Jupiter page – I used pieces of the earlier costume as reference for this one.

Fuku: Similar to my previous Jupiter costumes, I built the base off of a white leotard. I used the sleeves to create the rolled hip pads.

I had a really hard time finding green fabric I liked for this project, so what I ended up with was not exactly what I would have liked! I used my previous Jupiter costume’s collar and skirts as a reference to pattern the new ones. I added some wire into the hem of the collar in an effort to get the raised look like the show version’s had. I should have used a different pattern for the skirt and pleated it instead, but oh well! The second layer of skirt and pink pieces were a pink metallic material, it was a butt to work with and I’m not totally happy with it, either.

All of the gold trim I had to double over, because one layer did not look right – I kept having to buy more and it got expensive! The little shoulder pieces are organza.

Accessories: My tiara and hair bobbles are from my previous costume. The boots I bought on ebay and repainted – they were WAY too big!! They looked so silly, what was I thinking? LOL. I bought the gloves online and added the pink padded parts at the top.

History: I only wore this once, at Anime Expo. I wish I’d given myself more time on this costume. I did finally get to do a photoshoot with it in recent years and it looked SO much better than I remembered, so it’s had some better memories, at least.
